It is almost the beginning of a new year and that means the resolutionists will be out in force trying to find motivation to get in shape and lose weight. Why people have to wait until January to begin exercising is rather disconcerting, as any day of the year is a good time to begin a fast and healthy weight loss program. Motivation is key. If you are not willing to work on your fitness today then chances are you will not be exercising much past January either.

This is what you need to do to start exercising? Maybe you have never worked out a day in your life. Then the best place to start is in your neighborhood and simply find the time to walk briskly 30 minutes a day. You should keep working towards building the intensity. Find a hill and incorporate it into your workout twice a week. Picking up the pace by jogging a little will help. You should always look to set your goals higher. You should know that simply walking the same pace each day will not help build your body up.

There are lots of people who like going to a gym. There is a benefit to having so much celebrity exercise equipment at your disposal. Your motivation can increase by working out with other people. A fitness trainer can help you achieve your fitness goals. They will create a fitness plan for you and meet with you once or twice weekly. They show you how to perform the exercises and they monitor your progress. You can attend exercise classes. Some of the popular classes are weight lifting, indoor cycling, Pilates and yoga. Sports such as basketball, racquetball and swimming are also available for cross-training. If you have the interest and money then a fitness gym can be a great place to begin your celebrity workout program.

If you prefer solitude to working out then there are numerous home fitness options available. The television is littered with commercials extolling the virtues of all kinds of equipment for home exercise. Until you decide what your fitness goals look like then it is best to stay simple. For people just starting out a decent exercise DVD is a good place to start. As important as muscle training is, you also want to make sure you are concentrating on cardiovascular activities as well. Buying an expensive home gym is not necessary as you can get as much benefit from typical exercises like push-ups, crunches and other fitness exercises that are too many to list here. The DVD will help you get started. Working out your whole body is important.

The main thing is that motivation is what getting fit is all about. If you want to be in shape, lose weight, and/or achieve your goals of being fit, then you simply have to get out there and get moving. If you are not motivated then purchasing expensive fitness equipment or joining a cool gym will not do much good.

You might be aware that there are a number of benefits to stretching your muscles. But did you know that there are actually two different kinds of stretches? These movements are known as static and dynamic stretches.

A dynamic stretching routine is most often performed just prior to a vigorous physical activity. This might include a workout at the fitness club, participating in a team sport, or taking a dance class. A dynamic stretch will use movement to achieve its objectives. A static stretch involves holding a position for at least 10 seconds before you relax the muscle.

There are pros and cons to each of these stretching techniques. In particular, static stretching exercises are often controversial among fitness professionals. Even though stretching has been a part of fitness programs for any number of years, experts still disagree over the benefits of the various styles.

Static Stretching Routines

Static stretches are most often performed prior to an extended period of physical activity such as strength training or a cardiovascular workout. You will notice significant advantages when you perform static stretches. Among these is improved blood flow. When your blood is circulating optimally, more oxygen is delivered to your organs and muscles.

The benefits of stretching your muscles are best achieved by doing a variety of stretches. Each of these needs to target the various regions of your body. Pay attention to the muscle groups in your chest, legs, arms, neck, and back.

Dynamic Stretching Routines

Serious athletes tend to favor dynamic stretching routines for the benefits they provide. But you can do them even if you’re not participating in a high intensity activity. When you’re doing this type of stretch, you need to make sure you’re moving at the same time you achieve the greatest muscle stretch you can.

When performing a dynamic stretching routine, you have to wait for your muscles to warm up and reach maximum capacity. Revving up quickly into a demanding activity often results in a variety of injuries, from cramps to strains to sprains.

Now you know that dynamic and static stretching routines play different roles. The choice is yours depending on the fitness program you’ve committed to.

Kegel Exercises or Kegel exercises (after Dr. Arnold Kegel who spent many years researching the pelvic floor) are highly recommended by medical practitioners the world over as an exercise to help strengthen the pelvic floor muscles.

Dr. Kegel found that through using resistance exercise it was possible to not only eliminate stress incontinence effectively and safely, but that it was possible to reverse a uterine prolapse by as much as 5 to 7cm. Some would say that using a kegelmaster nearly as important to a woman as regular pap smears.

Pelvic floor exercises or kegel exercises (named from Dr. Arnold Kegel who did much research on the pelvic floor) are recommended universally as the cure for the above ailments. Has there been any real success with this? Our answer – Maybe Because no body ever tells you. Arnold Kegel intended the kegel exercise to be done with resistance, this is what the kegelmaster does, like no other product.

People increase muscle tone and strength by going to the gym. Some think that aerobic exercises help build mass and strength, WRONG. To get results we need weights and resistance. Aerobics only improves the look not the strength. This is why you have had little or no success with your pelvic floor; it’s the same as any other muscle in your body only more important.

What will it mean to you when you are able to perform a few exercises every day in the privacy of your own home and know with confidence that your health concerns will be a distant memory.

The kegelmaster provides numerous benefits, some are fixing of incontinence, sensitivity improvement, helping strength and recovery of pelvic floor muscles.

Many women arent doing kegel exercises, even when recomended by doctors, because of lack of knwledge or not doing it properly.

There is every chance of reversing a prolapse when it is in its early stage, with the help of a kegelmaster. Unfortunately some women wait until it is too late to take action and there is a point of no return after which surgery does become necessary.

Problimatic urination is more urgent at the time of menstruation, pains from periods are worse if the bowel is not emptied. The kegelmaster has proved to help in the treatment of these and many other problems.

Martial arts training could be one of the best possible investments in your kid’s future.

EVeryone has heard of Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan and Jet Li. Bruce Lee is the most well-known martial artist and perhaps the single biggest influence in the resurgence of interest in the martial arts. Kids responded to the skill and artistry of Bruce on the big screen, in a big way. Today, martial arts training is part of the mainstream sports scene. You can find martial arts classes, offered in almost every town, all across America and the United Kingdom.

We all know that kids aren’t getting enough exercise and this is reflected in increasing rates of overweight and obese children. How can you pry them away from sedentary activities like computer games? Enrolling your kids in a martial arts training program is one excellent solution.

You won’t have much trouble getting an enthusiastic response from your kids. The martial arts evoke images of powerful, agile superstars with almost magical abilities. There’s a certain romance to martial artists akin to the knights of old, television’s Zorro and the Three Musketeers.

Martial arts training provides kids with skills in self defense that can help keep them safe from would-be predators in everyday situations. This fact alone makes a parent feel more secure about their children’s safety.

Besides this obvious advantage, martial arts training teaches discipline, helps build good ethical standards, healthy self-esteem and provides a workout that fosters strength and agility. Unlike conventional team sports, martial arts are highly structured in a hierarchical progression of skill sets.

Novices typically begin with a white belt, distinguishing them from other students with greater skills. There is a great psychological incentive to progress to the next level, where they are rewarded with a stripe on their white belt or a different color of belt. To proceed to the next level, students must pass a test, conducted by the instructor, proving that they have mastered the necessary skill sets. Instructors carefully assess each student’s abilities before allowing them to test. This allows a student to progress at their own pace and encourages them to work hard to attain that next stripe or belt.

You can enroll your child in a martial arts training program at any time of the year. The student is simply integrated into the novice class upon enrollment. Their peers may be younger, older or the same age. This eliminates the pressure of competition on the basis of age. Older kids are encouraged to help younger kids develop their skills. When students prepare to test, they are usually paired with a student at the next level.

When choosing a martial arts school, interview instructors and learn the premises of the specific martial art. For example, Tae Kwon Do is one of the more aggressive disciplines, while Aikido is based on using your opponent’s strength to deflect the aggression.

Martial arts training can continue for a lifetime. Such kids grow up able to defend themselves, while being strong, fit, healthy and disciplined individuals. They could even go on to win an Olympic medal!

If you join a fitness center, will you make full use of it? This is the question on their mind when many people are considering joining. I’m sure many of you have joined one before and then never made full use of your membership.

The Excuses

Believe me, I know how easy it can be to put off getting in shape at a fitness center. After joining a fitness gym, I literally took a year to really start going regularly. I had joined Total Fitness because it was so affordable and so convenient. It was a short drive from the house I lived in, So there was no problem with going anytime I wanted to. I figured that I would go to fitness center all the time, lifting weights, running on the treadmill, and generally doing everything to get in shape. It did not turn out that way. For some reason, I was always finding and excuse not to go. Some days I was too tired, other times my back hurt, and other days I got home from work too late. Whatever the reason, I made it there maybe once a month for the first year.

The Inspiration

To tell you the truth, I never would have started attending the fitness club if I hadn’t run into an old friend. She used to be extremely heavy in high school. As a matter of fact, a lot of people used to make fun of her behind her back. She had a serious weight problem that has lasted all of her life. When I saw her, however, she was slim, fit, and self-confident like she had ever been before. I asked her about her secret, and she told me that it was simple. She had been going to fitness centers for the last year. She had lost something like 40 pounds, and turned a lot of the rest of her weight into muscle. She really motivated me to get in shape. I knew that if she could do it, I could do it too.

The Secret to Success

The secret to succeeding in fitness centers is to make sure to always have a workout partner. That way, come hell or high water, you can always drag each other to the gym. I recruited one of my friends and made him join my fitness gym. Together, we would go to fitness centers at least two times a week. Soon, it became three and then four. We were going all the time, and it was showing. I had better energy, more self-confidence, and I was starting to look really good.

Singles

If you are single, the fitness center can be a great place to meet new people. You never know – working out could be the start of a beautiful relationship.

Two very enjoyable and productive workshops on Wild Goose (Dayan) Qigong were given by my teacher Dr. Bingkun Hu during his yearly visit to the United Kingdom in August 2008. He has been coming to the UK every year now for four years and has a great desire that more people in the UK should know about the many health benefits that come from the practice of Wild Goose Qigong.

Wild Goose Qigong is a form of Medical Qigong which means that its sole purpose is to make us healthy and help us to live to a ripe old age. Dr. Bingkun Hu is a disciple of the late Grandmaster Yang Meijun. Yang Meijun was a great example to us all: she performed healing well into her nineties and lived until she was 106 years old.

Basic Principles of Wild Goose Qigong Workshop

The first weekend workshop on the 2nd and 3rd August was an introduction to the basic principles of Wild Goose Qigong and the Tripod and Spiral Wild Goose Qigong form was used to illustrate those principles. This workshop was in Hoylake in the community centre which is on the sea front. It was an ideal location to practise qigong.

Examples of the principles of Wild Goose Qigong are: shifting the body weight for free-flowing movements, using circular and spiral movements and using the wrist and waist coordination to relax.

Wild Goose Qigong Basic Training (Second 64 Movements) Workshop

In the second workshop of four days (8-11 August) Dr. Bingkun Hu taught the Second 64 Movements of the Wild Goose Qigong Basic Training for the first time in the UK. This form is commonly known also as Wild Goose Qigong 2. It follows directly on from the First 64 Movements which Dr. Bingkun Hu has taught twice in the UK so far. This workshop was held in Northern Moor, Manchester.

Many people have heard of and seen the slow-moving form of tai chi chuan which is primarily a martial art but also used for health. However, not many have heard of the many forms of qigong (pronounced chee gung) which look similar but are based upon Chinese Medicine and designed purely to maintain health, to live a long life and to recover from illnesses.

We are fortunate that Dr. Bingkun Hu is regularly visiting the UK since he is one of the few disciples of the late Grandmaster Yang Meijun who are capable of teaching the whole system. He regularly visits with Master Chen Chuan-Gang, the son of Yang Meijun and the present lineage holder.

For more information on the health benefits of Wild Goose Qigong and to check for upcoming courses, go to my medical qigong website.

Who doesn’t want a slim waistline or an impressive six-pack? Abdominal exercise, often called “ab exercise” is an important part of attaining it but not the only part.

Ab exercise is an important component in your overall workout routine. Everyone wants to have a lean, tight midsection. You may not care to have a “six-pack” but you still want to earn a whittled waistline. Many find earning that flat tummy is quite a challenge but with the right ab exercise, it can be accomplished.

It is important to remember that you need to incorporate aerobic activity into your workout if you want to burn fat. No ab exercise will actually get rid of extra weight in your midsection. Aerobic activity is the best approach for reducing your waistline.

You can incorporate ab exercise right into your aerobic activity with a few simple strategies. Make a conscious effort to pull your stomach muscles tight while engaging in aerobic activity like walking or swimming. This is also helpful while doing lunges and squats.

Ab exercise does help to tighten and firm the muscles in the stomach area. The strong stomach muscles will pull your waistline tight. Strong stomach muscles developed through consistent ab exercise will also strengthen your back.

A strong tummy equals a strong back. If you suffer from lower back pain you may benefit from certain ab exercises. The stronger your tummy is the stronger your back is. The muscles in the abdominal section work in collaboration with your back muscles.

It is crucial that you proceed with caution if you have back pain. Make sure that you take the time to consult your physician about starting an abdominal-strengthening routine. While the ab exercise is mutually beneficial to your tummy as well as your back, this same exercise is also hard on your back.

Ab exercise makes great demands on your back muscles. You will probably notice this during or shortly after a workout. Keep in mind that an injury will set your progress back significantly. So be careful. While it’s okay to be a little sore after a workout, excessive soreness can be an indication that you have injured yourself.

The abdominal muscles are unique in that they can be worked each and every day. Other muscles in the body require some downtime to help them build back up. You can incorporate some ab exercise into just about any regular workout routine.

Combining aerobic activity with ab exercise is a surefire way to get excellent results. You can work on your abdominal muscles pretty much anywhere, anytime if you put your mind to it.

So, get started with your ab excercise program whether you do it at home or at the gym. Here’s one example of an ab exercise workout -
